Caston Women's Institute

Tonight we welcomed Tony Perkins – Butcher who has three shops in the local area. He told us all there is to know about sausages as well as demonstrating with his sausage machine how to produce them.

He always has five different varieties of sausages in his shop and gets through 12 pigs a week in Attleborough.

During National Sausage week in November he produces about 30 different varieties and makes some interesting fillings including marmite and venison chilli and chocolate. He sources the pigs from Bawdeswell. Some interesting facts about sausages – largest sausage ever made was 35 miles long and weighed 15.5 tons. The most expensive sausage ever made contained champagne, truffles and fillet steak and cost £20 a sausage !!!.

Tony then gave us a quiz to see if we had been listening ! He sold off the sausages he had made and raised £60 for charity.

He finished off his talk with a quirky poem about sausages.
